As a final-year student, I wish I should know this in the First Year.
Hey,
Do you think college is the turning point of your life?
Some say yes others say No.
Anyway college is different from school life. You will get more exposure, opportunities, new colleagues, and you make more choices at this time. Some spend their college life partying with friends, while others are more cautious about their careers.
From my standpoint
In colleges, Balance is the passkey- work a lot and make time for fun.
But the question is-
What makes a student successful?
What secret formula help students in all areas effortlessly?
So Let's begin.
Here I will tell you five things you can do in your college life.
1. Develop a skill
Thanks to the internet
Today we can access the entire world of information and resources at our fingertips–and sometimes that feels like both a blessing and a curse. Many good-quality websites empower millions of students to build their skills and create meaningful changes in life.
No one will hire you if you have a degree without a skill. ( You can be successful without a degree). Developing skills in your first year of college will run more smoothly.
Your mind voice :
- Oh, I am only in 1st yr. I have 2/3/ years ahead. I will start learning from next year onwards.
- I have a series of exams, university exams, record writing, and assignments. There is no time to learn new subjects.
2. Build a good LinkedIn profile
Many are confusing that LinkedIn is a social media platform just like Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook. LinkedIn is a perfect platform to showcase your skills and be viewed by thousands of professionals. You can interact with students from other colleges with the same ideologies. Interact with the right person helps you to be on the right track. You will get continuous job notifications. LinkedIn also offers a feature through which you can get other people to recommend you. Let's start using social media for connecting professionals. If you start as soon as possible, you can easily stay ahead of the competition.
Imp: In any professional platform, there will be scammers. Beware of fraudulent job offers and messages. Take a look at their profile, activities, and connections.
Your mind voice:
- I don't need it
- I will get a job in campus placement
3. Part-time job
It's a fabulous opportunity for you can attain the first-hand experience in the marketplace. Many companies allowing students to do part-time freelance works. The employment sector is open for the student but getting on the right sector matters. Juggling study with a part-time job is not an easy task.
It will collide at some moment. But it helps you to manage your time. You will be more productive throughout the day.
If you are a good writer/designer, try a freelance article writer, editor/designer job. A lot of organizations need online tutors, go for it. Not only raising money helps you can to follow your passion.
Caution
If you can't manage work+study, drop that idea.
Your Mind voice
- No time for study and doing assignments. So how can I work?
One question: Do you have the time to play Pubg.
4. Start something new
College life is the best time to start something new. You can start a Youtube channel/ write blogs/ make an organization helpful for students. You can start a new business in your college days. Talk with people with the same ideologies and start building your team. You can explore new things and new perspectives in life. Sometimes you fail but get some experiences. Many famous companies like Facebook, Reddit, Snapchat, Google, etc found by college students.
The world’s most famous search engine, Google, was started in 1996 by two Ph.D. students at Stanford University
5. Explore
What all things went wrong, it gave you an experience. Just take part-time in all college events. It doesn't matter if you are good at it/not. Go for it.
Talk with many students other than your department. Participate in all activities, volunteer events, sports. Join NSS/NCC/ other clubs. These allow interacting with more students. Help to step out of your comfort zone.
Beware of these
1. Internship
Do you pay money for an internship?
Ya, I did.
To be frank you will get the certificate but no practical experience. You get some leisure time with your friends.
That's all
2. Project
The second mistake many students do in their college life is giving 20K+ money to project centers. If you have that much money you can come up with a good working prototype with a guide.
Beware of scam project centers
3. Love v/s College.
It is all ok to fall in love during college life. All you need to understand is that love doesn't hamper your grades. It's important to focus on your career.
4. In one single group.
Don't stick on with a group of 3-4 people. Maintain friendship with others.
5. Don't provoke teachers
40% of your grades are in the teacher's hand. So Beware.
